The big premiere is just days away and The Hollywood Reporter released the official price tag for NBC's "The Sound of Music" production on Wednesday (December 4).
According to the publication, the one-night musical adaption put the network back nearly $9 million dollars. After considering the costs, NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt decided it was worth the risk.
The hefty price tag included everything from the elaborate set to costumes and covering Carrie Underwood and "True Blood's" Stephen Moyer's salaries.
"This project hits Bob's sweet spot because he is a passionate devotee of theater," stated the musical's producer Craig Zadan.
The Wal-mart sponsored production is set to air on Thursday (December 5th) and will also hit the airwaves at least one more time before Christmas. If the premiere night's rating are high, the musical will be considered a holiday season favorite for the network.
NBC will also market the DVD version and the soundtrack just in time for the holiday gift-giving.
